UKINIT Workshop, DelhiThe UK India Network of Interactive Technologies invites you to join a one day workshop on HCI research and design. The workshop on the 25th of May will provide an introduction to Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and a review of some of the most important state-of-the-art research to date. Professors Alan Dix and David Benyon - authors of two of the leading textbooks on the subject - will open the workshop with an introduction to the whole area of interaction and designing interactive applications. They will be joined by top scientists from India and the UK to discuss the design implications of visual interaction, speech, information visualization and interaction with mobile devices. The day will finish with a thought-provoking lecture from a leading keynote speaker. The workshop will offer an excellent overview to the whole topic of HCI at a high level, and will appeal to students, industry members and academics alike. Don't miss this opportunity to exchange ideas with some of the most prominent contributors to HCI research and development. You can view the detailed schedule for the workshop here. Confirmed SpeakersKeynote Speaker: Kiran Karnik Kiran Karnik is a prominent figure and guiding force behind the Indian outsourcing industry. He has formerly been the president of NASSCOM (The National Association of Software and Services Companies), and is now one of its trustees. Mr. Karnik has recently been selected as one of three boards members as well as Chairman of Satyam Computer Services. Kiran Karnik, took up the position of President of NASSCOM in September 2001. As the chief executive of the apex body representing India's IT software and service industry, he works very closely with the industry, the Indian Central & State governments to formulate policies and strategies for the advancement of this sector locally as well as internationally. One of his key functions is to build global brand equity for the Indian software and service Industry and aligning NASSCOM to be a more corporatized organization to fulfill the industry's objectives. Alan Dix (Lancaster University, UK) is a Professor of Computing and a an academic member of the HCI Lab in the Computing Department at Lancaster University, and a Director of LUBEL, the University's IP (Intellectual Property) management company. His work typically includes formal or conceptual modelling to derive user interaction understanding or architectural design, but also includes areas such as technical creativity and the impact of the internet on the digital economy. David Benyon (Napier University, UK) is Professor of Human-Computer Systems at Napier University, Edinburgh. His research focus is on new forms of human-computer interaction and relationship building through new media. He published Designing with Blends through MIT press in 2006 with Manuel Imaz and a major textbook called Designing Interactive Systems with Phil and Susan Turner in 2005 Steve Brewster (University of Glasgow, UK) is a professor of human-computer interaction in the Department of Computing Science at the University of Glasgow. Brewster's research focuses on multimodal human computer interaction, or using multiple sensory modalities (particularly hearing, touch and smell) to create richer interactions between human and computer. His work has a strong experimental focus, applying perceptual research to practical situations. He has shown that novel use of multimodality can significantly improve usability in a wide range of situations, for mobile users, visually-impaired people, older users and in medical applications. Sriram Subramanian (University of Bristol, UK) is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Bristol, and a Co-Director of the Public Computing group that is concerned with drawing together traditionally disparate fields of electronic hardware with human interaction in public settings. He has research interests in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) with a particular emphasis on expanding the input bandwidth. Anirudha Joshi (IIT Bombay, India) is a faculty member in the Industrial Design Centre at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He teaches and does research in the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) design. His area of research interest is interaction design for users in developing economies. He also works in the area overlapping between software engineering and HCI. Hema Murthy (IIT Madras, India) Anupam Agrawal (IIIT Allahabad, India) Santanu Chaudhury (IIT Delhi, India) is a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He was awarded INSA medal for Young Scientists, and is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineers and the National Academy of Sciences. His research interests are in the areas of Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence and Multimedia Systems. He has published more than 100 papers in international journals and conference proceedings. Sumantra Dutta Roy (IIT Delhi, India) is Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He is a recipient of 2004 INAE Young Engineer Award (Indian National Academy of Engineering), and the 2004-05 BOYSCAST Fellowship of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. His research interests are in Computer Vision and Image Processing, Music Information Retrieval, and Bioinformatics. Registration DetailsRegistration Fees:
